The Power of One Connection: How Networking Can Open Doors to Success!
Hi Kingdom Giant,
It is the last day of April 2025…hurray!!!
Tomorrow, May 1st, 2025, the Liberation Mandate turns 44.
Isn’t God wonderful?
Hey, before I commence, I want to apologise for not sending this newsletter yesterday. It was a situation beyond my control that has been resolved.
Today’s edition of our weekly newsletter will be on “Power Networking”.
As a young professional building a career in a rapidly changing world, your network is one of your greatest assets.
That is, NEVER JOKE WITH IT!!!
The relationships you nurture today could transform your tomorrow.
In today's newsletter, I'll share key principles on how to network powerfully and intentionally.
“Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.”
(Proverbs 27:17 KJV)
Let's dive right in.
1. Give Value First, Always
The first rule of power networking is simple: Offer value before you ask for anything.
When you meet someone new, think: “How can I help this person achieve their goals?” It could be an introduction, a resource, an insight, or even a simple word of encouragement. People naturally want to help those who help them first.
"You can have everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want." — Zig Ziglar
2. The Fortune is in the Follow-Up
Meeting someone once isn't enough. The real magic happens in the follow-up.
After meeting a new contact, send a thank-you email or a LinkedIn message within 24 hours. Mention something specific you discussed to show you were attentive. Always remember, “building relationships is a journey, not a transaction”.
"Your network is your net worth." — Porter Gale, Former VP of Marketing at Virgin America
3. Be Intentional With Your Connections
Not every connection is equally valuable. You must be intentional about the kind of people you surround yourself with — those who challenge you, inspire you, and open new horizons.
"Surround yourself with only people who are going to lift you higher." — Oprah Winfrey
4. Leverage Your Network to Find Opportunities Faster
Your next job, partnership, or investment might not come from a job board — it will likely come from someone you know.
Smart networkers tap into their circles: they ask for referrals, share their goals openly, and stay top of mind with people who can help.
"Opportunities don't float like clouds. They are attached to people." — Reid Hoffman, Co-founder of LinkedIn
5 Businesses That Started from Networking Events
LinkedIn — Conceptualized through networking among Silicon Valley professionals.
Uber — Founders Travis Kalanick and Garrett Camp met through startup events in Paris.
Airbnb — Joe Gebbia and Brian Chesky leveraged connections from design conferences.
Reddit — Founders Alexis Ohanian and Steve Huffman met influential mentors through networking events.
Warby Parker — Its co-founders met at Wharton's entrepreneurial circles and launched from a school project.
Networking is not just exchanging business cards — it's about exchanging dreams.
Success is not just about what you know — it's about who you know and how you treat them.
Today, I challenge you to:
Attend at least one networking event this month.
Give genuine value to three new contacts.
Follow up with everyone you meet within 24 hours.
Intentionally seek out people who inspire and stretch you.
Regularly share your goals with your network.
Remember: "Your greatest opportunities will always come through people." — Brian Tracy
Until next time, keep connecting with courage and intention.
